Help Us to Help You

Reading through posts, it occurs to me that for a developer/programmer to troubleshoot an issue, it would be helpful to know certain details when the issue was raised. For instance, wouldn’t VW technicians want to know the device type (computer, tablet, phone) and the Operating System (MacOS, Windows, Linux, etc.)? I never see this info shared when an issue is first reported. I am sure there are other details that would be helpful to know.

I suggest a row of checkboxes or dropdown menus that need to be populated before a new message thread can be started for a technical issue.

Ask your tech team to see if they agree.

hi, nucky thompson

thanks for sharing another suggestion and valuable feedback for staff to hopefully consider

you sound pretty knowledgable on computers and software which allow you to use wording that may better resonate with admin from a tech standpoint

meanwhile, best of luck and have fun

"you sound pretty knowledgable on computers and software”…

Maybe because I am ISTQB advanced level certified (istqb.org).

It depends on the issue. If it’s an issue affecting many players, our teams can generally find the issue without device information.

If it’s an issue our QA team is not able to reproduce, we’ll ask for device information to have an idea of where to test.

Samantha, you are not wrong when you say device info is not always needed. In fact, I did not limit the suggestion to only device details.

For the tech team, there is no downside to having more info rather than less. From experience I can say that having more information up front helps to streamline the troubleshooting process, especially for complex issues. Just sayin’.
